About the Author

Rick Sherman

Rick Sherman is the founder of Athena IT Solutions. Rick has 30 years of business intelligence (BI), data integration and data warehousing (DW) experience. He has worked on over 100 BI and DW projects and has also provided guidance through assessments and in an advisory role for dozens of other enterprises. These projects have spanned many industries, a wide variety of business applications as source systems and different database technologies as either sources or targets. Rick’s roles have included strategic advice, architectural design, database design, project management and even hands-on data integration and BI development.

Rick is an expert instructor and speaker at numerous conferences, webinars and seminars. He teaches business and IT people BI and DW concepts, design, architectures and project management through onsite and online training. He has also taught BI courses for the last decade at Northeastern University's Graduate School of Engineering.

His book "Business Intelligence Guidebook - From Data Integration to Analytics" (Morgan Kaufmann 2014) is used by practitioners and as a textbook in colleges and universities across the globe. Rick has written more than 200 articles, which have been published in various industry publications including Information Management, searchBusinessAnalytics and searchDataManagement.

Rick also performs marketing, industry and competitive analysis for various high tech firms that sell BI, data warehousing and data integration software.

Prior to starting Athena IT Solutions, Rick was a director at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Previous employers include Digital Equipment Corporation, Project Software and Development (MRO Software/IBM), Norton, and Bristol Meyers Squibb. He has an MBA and a BA in Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and has completed most of the course work for a Master of Science in Computer Science.
