Data Integration Challenges

published in SearchDataManagementData quality and data integration challenges are two of the biggest problems plaguing BI initiatives.

Mark Brunelli of SearchDataManagement.com interviewed me the other day for their latest piece on data integration: BI software users report a sharp rise in data integration challenges.

We discussed:

  • Whether the concern over data integration was based on something new happening in the industry
  • What’s so tough about data integration
  • Initial data inegration challenges
  • The track record of smaller vendors who integrate their products with major applications like SAP and Oracle
  • Advice for those who are purchasing BI products, but are concerned about data integration issues
  • My favorite data integration best practices

  1. Great insight, Rick. I would also suggest that performance and scalability belong on the list of top challenges. We definitely see the adoption of mobile devices, collaboration and social media as key factors that are fueling exploding creation of data as well as wider BI adoption. This has not only exposed but aggravated some of the existing problems of data integration at a point where a large percentage of IT professionals agree their DI tools are impeding their ability to achieve the strategic objectives of the business. I recently blogged on the results of a survey that Syncsort commissioned about DI challenges in case you are interested in learning more or commenting on the findings http://bit.ly/l0Cpwo
